Studying the Word (2 Timothy)

“…the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil,  correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,  and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,  heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good,  treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions,  always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.” 2 Timothy 2:24-3:7

There’s no doubt that this passage fits the world around us today. Read each characteristic of people listed in this passage and I’m sure you can identify someone in the news, on your facebook feed or even in your own life that fits the description.

God gripped my heart with these words.

I feel a strong leading to meditate on this paragraph, break down what the Lord is teaching me in my life through it and lay it out on here. My plan is to, each day, take a point that is standing out and link it to real life (because we are not meant to just read the Word but do something about it also) and other parts of Scripture.

I would love for each of you to join me.

Read it for yourself. Maybe your translation is different. Share any differences you find here with the rest of us.

Maybe God is speaking to you through this passage. Please tell us what the Spirit is telling you in these words. We are each at different places in life and we know that the Word is living and active so it will meet you where you are.
